Teaser Tuesday: A Pointed Death by Kath Russell

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

1. Grab your current read.
2. Open to a random page.
3. Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page.
4. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!).
5. Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Teaser:
A Pointed Death
Wednesday evening my luck ran out. Janie Belle was lying in wait for me in the garage on the pretext of depositing newspapers in the recycle bin.
'When will you be bringing your young man to dinner?' she asked as an opener.
I hadn't even been allowed to get out of the Saab. I futzed with my briefcase to buy time. 'I don't think we're that far along yet, Mother.'
'Nonsense! It is never too soon to cook for a man.'
'That's a very nice suggestion, but you have to remember that this started out as a professional relationship, and you have to feel your way along more slowly, ah, to...'
'You are not gettin' any younger,' she said. A little tap of her foot and a hand perched on either hip implied I'd better pick up the pace, as time was marching on.
I marched to the kitchen and the Dewar's bottle. I was pouring my second by the time she caught up with me. - pg. 127, A Pointed Death by Kath Russell

What are you reading this week?
